MMS Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest Winners!

Congratulations to MMS students for receiving honorable mentions in the recent 2024 Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest! Seventh graders Even Dyrud and Colin Bozick were recognized in the lower monologue group, and eighth graders Liam Novosat-Clark and Leia Wolf were recognized in the upper monologue group! There were over 750 students who participated this year - so kudos to the MMS group! Other MMS participants included Sydney Dewey, June Bigham, Evangeline Tan, Violet Weber, Sophie Phillips, and Finn Snodgrass. Students also had a workshop with a professional actor and spent days practicing for the competition. 

MMS Odyssey of the Mind Winners!

A shout-out to the MMS team for winning first place in the regional Odyssey of the Mind Competition this past weekend and advancing to the state level.  Team members include seventh graders Taran Santoshi, Ian Lee, Liam Furey, Linnea Engman,  Sophia Lariviere, Evan Snyder, and 5th grader Anna Lee (Washington Elem.) 

American Mathematics 2024 Competition Winners!

Congratulations to MMS math students earning the top scores in our district for the American Mathematics 2024 Competition. Aarush Dutta, (8th) earned the top score of 17, placing him first in the district. Brogan Stahl (6th) and Lucas Deng (5th) each earned a 16, tying for second place with a score of 16, and June Bigham (7th grade) earned a 15, taking third place. Brogan and Lucas also earned a National Certificate of Achievement for students in grade 6 and below who scored over a 15 on the AMC 8. 


There were 69 high-achieving students from MMS and JMS taking the test this year.  This is a very advanced test taken by top middle school math students in the country. We are still waiting for the final national results. This year, high school students conducted workshops at both middle schools to help students prepare for the test. 

PA Junior Academy of Science winners!

Congratulations to 8th grader Sasha Rozovsky and 7th grader Eli Lasus for their first place recognitions at the recent Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science regional competition at Baldwin High School! Kudos also to those who placed second for all of their hard work.

Eli Lasus received a first place for his project in microbiology on the Digestion of Different Forms of Sugar;  Charlotte Houghton (8th) received a second place for her project titled Cabbage Fermentation Study, also in the microbiology category.

Mellon Students publish poetry!

Students Sanvi Banka, Amelia  Siemianowski , Linnea Engman, Gwen Vogt, Sofia Alam, and Tessa Duncan all had poetry accepted for publication through Appelley Publishing company. Not pictured- Avalene McCaffrey who was also selected.
