PA Junior Academy of Science winners!

Congratulations to 8th grader Sasha Rozovsky and 7th grader Eli Lasus for their first place recognitions at the recent Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science regional competition at Baldwin High School! Kudos also to those who placed second for all of their hard work.

Eli Lasus received a first place for his project in microbiology on the Digestion of Different Forms of Sugar;  Charlotte Houghton (8th) received a second place for her project titled Cabbage Fermentation Study, also in the microbiology category.

Alexander Rozovsky received a first place for his project in behavioral science titled Relationships Between Direct Memory and Mnemonic Memory.

Ian Lee (7th) received a second place in Chemistry for his project The Efficacy of Disintegrating Ice Using Liquids and Solids. 

Iris Wu (8th) received a second place for her project in Engineering titled The Efficiency of Truss Designs Under Concentrated Pressure.

Aarush Dutta (8th) won a second place in computer science for his project titled Prediction of Coronary Heart Disease Using Machine Learning. 

Eli and Sasha will move on to the PJAS state competition at Penn State University this May. 

The Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science is a statewide competition designed to stimulate and promote interest in science through the development of research projects and investigations. There were over 450 students competing from both Allegheny and Westmoreland counties this year.

Middle School students who are interested in working on a science project for next year should contact Mrs. Duchin for information at kduchin@mtlsd.net.
